Summer Salt, Observatory, San Diego

Summer Salt came to San Diego, CA on March 1st, 2026 at the North Park Observatory. Marking the last show they would have in California for their Reside North American Tour.

Before the show began, the “salt shakers”, the dedicated fan base name, filled the room with chatter and laughs. Even some trying to make sure they were first to the barricade, so they could get a perfect view of the band.

Summer Salt first formed in 2012 by childhood friends, Matthew Terry and Eugene Chung, in Austin, TX who would then eventually rally Winston Triolo and Anthony Barnett to round out the group. Their music style is one that consists of indie-pop, surf rock, and 1960s oldies.

As showtime neared, the “salt shakers” cheered on their favorite group as they entered the stage. The lights dimmed low, then they began with their song “Seventeen“, from their debut album Happy Camper. The crowd went wild for this. As the show went on, they sang fan favorites, “Driving to Hawaii“, “Revvin My CJ7” and “One Last Time“. But fans wanted one song in particular, “Carry On“, so much they were screaming the song name at the top of their lungs. Summer Salt gave the fans what they wanted, as soon as the song started, I saw couples dancing and jumping up and down with each other in pure joy.

There came a pause in the show where lead singer, Matthew Terry decided to give a little pop quiz on their journey to stardom. With the prize being a signed Padres jersey the singer carried with him for the last three years. One fan was selected to answer two of four questions correctly, and the jersey was his. Unfortunately the fan got stumped, but the crowd rallied behind him to help answer the final question correctly. The question being “The Padres have gone to the World Series twice, name one of the two teams they faced?” The whole venue screamed “Yankees!” to help this young man win that jersey. Sure enough he got the jersey and left the show with more than a few memories, but actual Padres history.

Summer Salt picked a perfect end to their California run, as San Diego is known for its beachy and surfer vibes. Which is what their music is all about. Makes you want to get in the car and head down to the beach and just relax, and enjoy the salt air.

If you missed this one, you won’t want to miss them next time they come to San Diego.
