It’s Friday the 13th and what better way to spend it than with Colony House. Colony House made their way to San Diego, CA for their 77 Tour. 77 is their fourth studio album that was broken into two parts. Part one was released in 2025, with part two being released in February of 2026.
Colony House started up in 2009 with brothers, Caleb Chapman (vocals) and Will Chapman (drums) while in high school, who then recruited Scott Mills and Parke Cottrell. Although their original name was Caleb, they went on to change it in 2013 to Colony House, after an apartment complex they once resided in.
Their style of music is what I would describe as alternative rock, indie pop and surf styled guitar tones. Or as they call it “landlock surf rock”. Their themes of faith, search for meaning and overall nostalgia, makes the music more impactful. It’s a style that makes humans well, human. The meaning of 77 to simplify is “you’re right where you belong”, which is a perfect example of what their sound is.
Before the show began, I was maybe expecting a typical rock show, crowd surfing, moshing, head banging and more. But what I got, was so much better.
The opener was The Band Mercury, an alternative rock band who sings about self growth. A fitting theme for the night. Although their music is more like a soft rock, their lyrics is what fans can relate to. The crowded room, swayed with the beats and often singing along.
The lights dimmed, fog started to over take the stage, everyone in the room knew it was time for Colony House. When the music started, it was fan favorite “77“, a song about finding some peace, amid personal and global turmoil. Reflecting about the struggle to find the truth without experiencing more pain. It definitely set the tone for the rest of the show.
Lead singer Caleb even went into the crowd multiple times to sing to the fans and hold their hands during some of the more powerful and meaningful songs throughout the night. It was quite an experience and very eye opening if I am being honest.
The show had a song for everyone, whether you went alone, with friends, or with a lover, there was something for all. But if you read into the lyrics and let the music take over, you will feel a sense of peace and love from everyone in the room. It was the most amazing thing to feel. To feel songs that can heal you or make you understand what being human feels like. It’s something we need in times like these, with everyone so glued to social media, it’s refreshing to have music that makes you realize, we all struggle, we all have our ups and downs in life. But we are all exactly where we belong.
