Joey Valence and Brae, North Park Observatory, San Diego

Coming to their last stop of the North American leg of the tour, Joey Valence and Brae made sure it was a showstopper. Better known as JVB, embarked on tour for their 3rd studio album “Hyperyouth“. Coming to a close in San Diego, CA.

I had never heard of JVB before, but once I listened to their music, I knew it was going to be a great show. Nevertheless, it made me excited to see what type of atmosphere they can bring to the table.

Openers, Detahjae and DJEWOOK were the perfect acts to open up for JVB. They brought the energy and the crowd was eating it up. Detahjae flew out onto the stage, immediately hyping the crowd up. He had them jumping up and down right from the start. The fans couldn’t get enough of him. Even when he slowed it down a bit, the crowd’s energy never left, it was as they had tunnel vision and embraced every word coming out.

DJEWOOK got the crowd going wild. Playing songs from the 2000s to the 2010s, the fans soaked it in. Even as I was in the photo pit, the other photographers and myself were jamming out to each song he played. It was something I have never seen in the pit before. He was captivating, fun, and overall a great hype man. He gave the fans just the right amount of juice for JVB.

Joey Valence and Brae met their freshman year of college at Penn State in 2021. Where they instantly became friends and started making music. They quickly went from normal college students to rap sensations, thanks to their single “Double Jump”. With their styling of 90’s rap that meets modern punk-rap, it’s no wonder they were instantly a catch.

When it became time for JVB, the room filled with chants from eager fans wanting them to come out already. The lights dimmed and DMX’s “Partyup” started blaring from the speakers. The screams before were loud, but once JVB hit that stage, the room filled with uproars of excitement.

Hitting the stage strong, they started with “HYPERYOUTH“, jumping up and down, lights going wild. It was definitely the place you’d want to be. The crowd wasted no time in shaking the room, it was so strong even the barricade was vibrating. Fans started moshing and even crowd surfing. It was insane, but every single person in that room had a smile on their face. It was filled with pure joy and fun. Especially when they would sing fan favorites such as, “Punk Tactics“, “WASSUP” and “See U Dance“.

This crowd was the perfect ending to their North American tour leg. The fans loved every minute, never wavered in energy, and overall had fun. Personally, this was one of the most energetic concerts I’ve been too. If you missed them, you missed a great time. Hopefully San Diego is on their next tour because this is a crowd that wants more.
