Hundreds of San Diegans began their weekend with The Garden. A rock band from Orange County, CA. Formed in 2011, twin bothers Wyatt and Flecther Shears, initally starting as a side duo from their band M.H.V, they departed to focus full time on The Garden.
The meaning of The Garden is a metaphor for their genre of music, which is “growing and evolving”. Just as a garden would do. They released their self titled EP in 2012, while still being signed by their previous label.
With music stylings of punk-pop or as lead singer Wyatt would call it “VadaVada”, which means that they have creative freedom of their music. It is very bass heavy, with electronic beats. So something to let all your energy out too.
Fans expressed themselves by painting their faces similarly to the artist. Dressed in punk clothing and band tees, these fans were pumped for The Garden.
As the lights dimmed, the screams got louder and you have to ask yourself, “how crazy is this night going to get?”, before you can even answer the voice in your head the moshing begins. Crowd surfers quickly coming at you from every direction. Security moving you out of the way so your camera gear doesn’t get ruined, but overall it is an amazing time! The mosh pit quickly spirals out of control and next thing you know, you must make a decision whether to join them or stand off to the side. It looks scary, but it is all in good faith. Just dive in and let loose with them. You won’t regret it. But this goes with caution as I did see a couple people get bloody noses, that’s just how these rock shows can get.
It was a fun time for all, from the first beat of “Horseshit on Route 66” to “OC93” and ending on the crowd favorite “Thy Mission”, the show never missed a beat. It was a fun time and the crowd was amazing. Never a dull moment during the night. Although, the twins didn’t talk much to the crowd, it still felt like a personal connection between fans and the artist. Something you don’t get to experience a lot of.
I’d definitely recommend taking a night to see The Garden. It’s a great time, especially if you have a group of friends who want to rock out!
